Sunday 5th December finally saw the Saffron Walden 2021 Tri taking place. Normally a regular fixture in the local triathlon calendar earlier in the year, this was unable to happen in 2020 but was finally scheduled for early September 2021. Due to Covid restrictions the number of participants had to be reduced and spectator numbers were lower than normal but there was a still a strong field taking part.
Perfect conditions saw 8 athletes from Stortford Tri take part in the 400m swim, 23k bike and 5k run.
This event starts off with a pleasant swim in the pool at the Lord Butler leisure centre but quickly starts to test any competitor with the rolling hills around Saffron Walden and then a challenging off-road run to finish off.
Results:
- Themi Petridis – 1 hour 5
- Phillip Gibsone – 1 hour 11
- Matt Mcrandal – 1 hour 12
- James Delve – 1 hour 14
- Matt Cole – 1 hour 15
- Julie Pagram – 1 hour 29
- Martin Petit – 1 hour 30
- Chris Brolly – 1 hour 44
At the finish line there was even an opportunity for a photo with a Paralympic Medal holder – George Peasgood who used to train in Saffron Walden and had only recently flown back from Tokyo – https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/
Special thanks to Kev Mully for supporting on the bike leg and Jenny Latham for supporting at the finish line!
