The Club’s 2017 Midweek Aquathlon Series got off to a start in cracking summer weather last night. Thirty-six starters took on the 750m open water swim/5km trail run event. All finished save Stortford Tri’s own Roger Berry who had not recovered sufficiently from Sunday’s long bike event to finish the run.
Tri Sport Epping started a strong defence of their club’s series titles, with Lewis Calcutt first overall and first male vet, and Mark Elson first male senior in second position overall. Their ladies were led home by Mel Bourne, but she was not quick enough to keep up with Kelly Rowland of Stortford Tri who was first lady in 35:52 and first female vet. Zoe Hague was first female senior in 36:51.
Great to see new kids on the block, Harlow Tri, present in numbers, led home by Andrew Kitson, 3rd overall in 32:55 and Paula Reynolds in 37:05. They will feature strongly in the team competition (standings to be calculated).
The next race takes place Tues 20th June, with further races on Tuesday evenings in July, August and September.
The Club is grateful for the support of event sponsor Stort Valley Cycles, and Herts Boat Rescue who provide the safety cover.
