Carrying on this year’s trend of fine weather, the fourth and final race in the Stortford Tri Midweek Aquathlon Series took place on another scorching hot evening.  Thirty-three athletes were not deterred by the temperatures, and the evening saw some cracking performances, chief among them the spectacular sub-30 minute finish by newcomer Robbie Lightowler from Leeds Triathlon Club.  Robbie left his fellow competitors far behind, finishing more than 4 minutes ahead of runner-up Lewis Calcutt from Tri Sport Epping.
The Epping club had a fanastic night, occupying half the spots in the top-10 as well as first lady home for the club’s Louise Rawlinson, and also took home the series team trophy for the third year running.
Newcomer club Harlow Tri also fielded some excellent performances, with three men in the top 10 and second lady Holly Nairn finishing top in her age category. Special mentions goes to Ware Joggers, who expanded their first venture into multisport by fielding not just one but four relay teams, and to brave Linda Olivera who, having been delayed in traffic, started her swim a full 7 minutes after the field and still managed to have a great race.

Our thanks goes to our sponsor, Stort Valley Cycles, for generously supporting us again this year; to our safety cover team, Herts Boat Rescue for keeping an eye on us in the water;   to Redricks Lakes for the venue; and to Pete and team in the cafe for refreshments and homing our registration.      Thanks too to the Club members, family and friends who volunteered to help run the event.    Without all of their support, the event could not go ahead.
And finally, thank you to all the athletes for supporting our 2016 series.   We plan on hosting a full five race series again next year.  Hope to see you there.
