The fourth race in the Stortford Tri Mid-week Aquathlon series was completed last night in pleasant conditions for all but the last few runners, who caught a brief shower – for which they were rewarded with a stunning rainbow. Another strong field of forty-two athletes took on the 750m open water swim/5km trail run challenge. Water temperatures are still high, and quite a few opted to swim without wetsuits again – personal choice and a tradeoff between potentially slower swim times and faster transition times.
George Cook of Tri Sport Epping returned after a one race absence to once more post a convincing win in 29 minutes 48 seconds, just over a minute ahead of newcomer Alan Pritchard of Cambridge & Coleridge Athletic Club who won the male veteran (40+) category in 30:56. This forced Kevin Partridge, also Tri Sport Epping, into third spot overall and second male veteran.
The ladies were lead home by Hayley Hawes of East Essex Tri in 34 minutes 31 seconds, ahead of Louise Rawlinson of Tri Sport Epping (36:17) and Caroline Cole of RG Active, who finished in 37:48, taking third overall and first female veteran.
Thank you to all competitors and volunteers. Hope to see you all back for the final race of the series on 2nd Sept (earlier start time of 6:30pm due to diminishing daylight).
