Well, that’s the 2013 Aquathlon series complete for another year.  It had to happen sooner or later but the inclement weather did not deter those that braved the elements … in fact some people seem to relish the damp and soggy conditions.

Some ‘thanks’:

  • A big thank you to everyone that competed both tonight and throughout the season. Without you we have no show to put on.
  • Thanks to Mark Bissell of Direct Displays for his generous contribution that the race a financial kick start.
  • Thanks to all the people that turned out to volunteer with time keeping and marshalling. Very necessary support and you make it happen on the night.
  • Thanks to Herts Boat Rescue for being there and for not being needed. You gave us peace of mind.

Tonight’s race saw a diminished field in numbers but not in spirit or competition. I don’t think the cooler lake water and the soggy tracks suited everyone but this is England ……

The rescheduled date allowed George Cook to return to win the Men’s Seniors again. Andy Bourne also had another comfortable win and probably relieved Kevin Partridge was nursing an injury and opted not to compete; they both competed at the World Aquathlon Championships last week with Kevin coming away with Gold in his age group and Andy missing a podium finish in a sprint finish.

In the ladies race tonight a new comer in Zoe Hague won the Seniors and Bryony Maddams won the vets in a close finish with Joanne Waters.

The full results can be seen here.

Tonight we awarded the Series prizes as well and you needed to be there to take them home.

The club Series this year was a bit of a one-horse race.  Each club had to have 3 man and 2 ladies compete in each of the series races and the lowest accumulated gender score counted. Tri Sport Epping were run-away leader by 189 points. Not even a collective of the unattached could muster a challenge!!  Well done Tri Sport Epping and thanks for your support.

Lastly I would like to thank Julia – while we were hudled in the clubhouse with the results this evening she was single handedly, again and without asking, rolling up the orange netting and gathering everything else neatly together to go in the back of my car. Thanks x.
